Pillows from Scarves

I just love these pillows made from vintage scarves. What a wonderful idea. When I was a kid we used to visit my grandma's house and she had drawers full of scarves we would spend hours dressing up in them. We used them as tops, skirts, on our heads and arms... so much fun!!

Matteo Bedding Retail Showroom - LA

Last week I was lucky enough to go to LA with my WONDERFUL customer/friend Liza who took me to the Matteo Retail showroom!  I was in love- The exterior was fantastic - it is covered in reused wood pallets that were placed across the face of the building.  I loved the look and feel of the space.  They used the pallets inside to line all of the walls and to make up the counter.  What a creative and amazing idea to reuse these textured pieces. 

They are having a big sale this weekend.  If you are in the area you should stop by and see their bedding is amazing and great quality.

I just had to share this with you! One of my clients needed to leave some books for me on her porch to pick up and when I arrived this is what I found. the cutest little wrapping job with a brown bag and rubber bands! I am sorry but this girl can make everything look good! I love it- Thank you Liza!

Green design: Reusing Vintage chairs

I was so excited to see that other designers feel the same way that I do. Sometimes you just cannot beat reusing a piece, giving it a new life, and getting something a little bit more unique. While emailing with Doug at Tracery Interiors about a project that they had just completed, which has a wonderful guest suite in all greige, I noticed the chairs in the photos. In this particular home Doug used a few sets of chairs that were reupholstered and refinished in some cases, to create a very unique and inviting look. Green Design: Reuse containers and crates for potted plants

I just love this outdoor space from a great shop in Copenhagen. A great way to reuse and reduce is to pick up vintage crates, pots and other containers to pot your patio or indoor garden. They work wonderfully for herbs and veggies to keep them close at hand for harvesting.

So I stopped by my local Anthropologie store yesterday and got an opportunity to see what they made from all of those plastic bottles that they collected!! How fun are these displays- please excuse the terrible glare from the reflection!

Green Design: Vintage Subway Roll signs as art from Home Economics

Just back from the show in LA late last night and I wanted to share this with you. I know that Vintage Subway and bus signs are everywhere now, but they are still cool and home economics is a great place to pick up a real vintage piece for a great price. The chair was a great look too. I really liked the small pieces that were framed- perfect for a little touch of black and white and they only cut the damaged signs to create these. New bed... New project

Just before Christmas my mom called with a wonderful discovery.. she had seen these beds at a thrift store near by and we just had to have them! They are a little worn but it was a deal I could not pass up. There is a set of 2 so one will be painted white and go to my daughter and the other will more than likely be painted black and go off to be sold. I so wish that we had a room big enough to hold both because I love the look of double twins in a room but alas it is not meant to be..

This is a great little green project! We are reusing someones cast off and making it new again with just a little paint and elbow grease.

Green Design: Vintage suitcases and luggage

Design is my major passion so as I was sitting here I was wondering - would you want to know what I think about Green Design...? Humm. Well I don't know if you really want to know, but I am going to share a few things with you once in a while when the mood strikes, so here you go..

Vintage pieces are always a wonderful way to give your home personality, style and a sense of history. I read the other day somewhere that each room in a well designed home should have at least one antique or vintage piece in it- So true. Here a few fun ideas for vintage luggage. They make a great display when stacked and are a simple eco friendly design choice for a side table. If you are short on space they double as storage. I have a few in my office that I use to store samples.

The great thing is you can find them everywhere- flea markets, ebay, etsy and at antique shops.
