So have you thought at all about what you are going to plant for the Spring? I am working on it, but having a hard time deciding if I should rip out an entire section of the grass and make a fruit and veggie garden...

Green Design: Vintage Subway Roll signs as art from Home Economics

Just back from the show in LA late last night and I wanted to share this with you. I know that Vintage Subway and bus signs are everywhere now, but they are still cool and home economics is a great place to pick up a real vintage piece for a great price. The chair was a great look too. I really liked the small pieces that were framed- perfect for a little touch of black and white and they only cut the damaged signs to create these. Please visit them on Etsy to check out what they currently have in stock and where they will be selling next if you would like to see them in person.

New bed... New project

Just before Christmas my mom called with a wonderful discovery.. she had seen these beds at a thrift store near by and we just had to have them! They are a little worn but it was a deal I could not pass up. There is a set of 2 so one will be painted white and go to my daughter and the other will more than likely be painted black and go off to be sold. I so wish that we had a room big enough to hold both because I love the look of double twins in a room but alas it is not meant to be..

This is a great little green project! We are reusing someones cast off and making it new again with just a little paint and elbow grease.

Here is the bed undone. Stay tuned for the finished piece....

Green Design: Bookcase of curiosities

Creating your own bookcase of curiosities is and should be a fun design project. I think it is a fantastic idea to mix your collection of wonderful things with books. A great way to unify your collection or make a simplified back drop for it is to coordinate your books. If you are a book buyer, like I am, it is hard to display them with their covers - too many colors and too much going on distracting from my treasures. A great way to unify your books is to cover them in one or two different colors of paper, you can write their titles simply on the binding for reference. If you find your collection consists of mostly paperbacks or a combination of both wrap the hardback books and turn the paperback with their pages out.

If you don't have a collection of books you can buy groupings of distressed books to display with your treasures. Check ours out online here. Or you can take up reading!!
